Healthy Kids Program
Is your child struggling to lose weight? Are they between the ages of 8 and 12? The goal of this program is to empower children and families to healthy eating and exercise.
For teens between the ages of 13 - 18 years that are struggling to lose weight, Winthrop Pediatric Associates has created the CHANGE Program. Using fitness evaluations, nutrition consultations, a 12-week gym membership at a state-of-the-art facility, and personal exercise prescriptions, the CHANGE Program lays the foundation for a healthy lifestyle through exercise, nutrition and behavioral modifications.
Metabolic-Screening Referral Center
We are a Referral Center for hormonal abnormalities found during the New York State Metabolic-Screening Program. Our pediatric endocrinologists specialize in treating congenital hypothyroidism and congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

Our nationally recognized Pediatric Diabetes Program has numerous certified diabetes educators who are certified insulin pump specialists. Our clinical and educational staff address the needs not only of the patient, but of their family and community.
Our social worker is here for you and your family. Working with children of any age, in any condition, our social worker is able to provide information regarding financial, community resources, and insurance issues to those who might need assistance. Through psychosocial therapy, emotional support, and healthy coping mechanisms, our social worker is committed to helping.
Insulin Pump Program
This is a formal comprehensive consistent process of moving a child or teen and their family from injection therapy to insulin pump therapy for our patients with diabetes. We do this in a manner that is safe, supportive, and lends itself to successful pumping.
Taking Diabetes to College
For patients who are in their junior year of high school, this individualized program helps prepare them and their families in the transition to picking a college.

All About the Toilet
Winthrop Pediatric Associates’ All About the Toilet program provides consultation for families with children of all ages—with or without special needs—who have toilet training issues. Evaluation and treatment are provided by physicians that are board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology.
Toilet Training Seminars
We offer monthly seminars for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents with toilet-training issues.
Bowel Management Program
Fecal incontinence – also known as “soiling” or having bowel “accidents,” affects more than 5.5 million Americans. A person with fecal incontinence may not be able to hold their bowels once they have the urge to go, or stool may leak from the rectum unexpectedly.
The Pediatric Feeding Program at Winthrop Pediatric Associates specializes in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of feeding and swallowing disorders in children. Our goal is to maximize feeding skills and improve each child’s well-being through treatment, training, and parental support. Our treatment plans are comprehensive, highly-effective, and extensive.
Carleigh McCormack Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Lab
Winthrop Pediatric Associates provides comprehensive cardiopulmonary evaluations of pediatric patients in the Carleigh McCormack Physiology Laboratory--a sophisticated state-of-the-art exercise physiology laboratory. Experienced cardiologists, pulmonologists, nurses and an exercise physiologist assess how well a child’s heart, lungs and muscles respond to the extra demand of physical exertion. Test results are also used to determine the cause of chest pain, syncope, arrhythmias and the effectiveness of drug therapy.
Healthy Lungs for Kids Program
A comprehensive respiratory evaluation, diagnosis and treatment program for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. We treat children with a wide range of acute and chronic congenital, inherited and acquired breathing disorders.
Asthma & Allergy Patient Education Program
The Pulmonary Nurse Practitioner offers individualized education for children and families to help them manage asthma and allergies.
Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia Program
A program designed for premature infants at high risk for lung problems.
Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing
Our state-of-the-art, non-invasive testing to assess a child’s heart and lung function, which includes Exercise Challenge Testing to diagnose exercise induced asthma and comprehensive pulmonary function testing to determine if obstructive or restrictive diseases exist.
Exhaled Nitric Oxide Testing
This cutting-edge technology is utilized to determine the degree of airway inflammation, which is present in patients with asthma.
Our pediatric pulmonologists evaluate infants and children with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions.
Pediatric Sleep Disorder Services

Kidney Transplant Services
Our team at Winthrop Pediatric Associates works with you and your child right up until your child gets his/her new kidney. But we don’t stop there. After your child’s transplant is completed, we continue care to make sure your child received the best course of treatment.
Sonography (Sonogram of Kidney and Bladder)
Sonograms of both the kidney and bladder are provided during your appointment with results available immediately. At Winthrop Pediatric Associates we believe in quick, non-invasive methods of treatment and tests to help us diagnose our patients diseases.
Unique to Long Island, New York, Winthrop Pediatric Associates provides the only pediatric Urodynamics lab. Urodynamics is the study of how the bladder stores and releases urine. These tests help our doctors and nurses see how well the bladder and sphincter muscles work. Urodynamic testing can often help explain symptoms such as incontinence, frequent urination, sudden, strong urges to urinate, problems starting a urine stream, painful urination, problems emptying your bladder completely and recurrent urinary tract infections.
This test is done on-premises measures urine flow rate (how fast the urine exists the bladder) and helps our nephrologist evaluate the bladder muscle.
Voiding Dysfunction Program
Winthrop Pediatric Associates’ Voiding Dysfunction Program includes treatment for urinary tract infections, daytime urine leaking, and overactive bladder and bedwetting. These conditions can occur together or separately and are addressed to each child’s needs to help increase their confidence.
International Adoption Services
Winthrop Pediatric Associates have been providing International adoption services and support to parents all over the United States in their quest to adopt a child from overseas. We seek to simplify the process and take away all the challenging aspects so that this experience can be what it should be, the happiest one of your lives.

Cancer Risk Assessment
Winthrop Pediatric Associates offers genetic counseling and risk assessment for individuals and families who have a history of cancer. Genetic counseling is an informed decision making process between a geneticist and patient concerning the occurrence or risk of occurrence of a genetic disorder. The risks are communicated in terms that can be easily understood. A genetic counselor may discuss early detection and possible prevention.
How long will my appointment take?
At Winthrop Pediatric Associates, our primary concern is for the evaluation and treatment of our patients. You can rest assured knowing that we value and respect your time, at no expense to the treatment of our young patients. Because every physician spends the necessary time required with each and every single patient, appointments can (and many do) take a while. Our individualized methods of patient-centered care are the only way an outpatient medical facility should run.

Winthrop Child Neurology Associates, a top-tier pediatric neurology outpatient facility, is also affiliated with Winthrop-University Hospital. In addition, the Cancer Center for Kids is affiliated with Winthrop-University Hospital. Having the ability to be affiliated across a spectrum of medical fields and specialties enables our physicians and practitioners to have access to extensive and immediate knowledge bases, and diagnoses and treatments.
How long will I typically have to wait to schedule an appointment?
While we aim to be able to schedule your appointment in a timely manner, our physicians are sometimes scheduled at least a week in advance. This ranges from division to division with the common principle that the patient’s treatment plan takes top priority.
