New York State Metabolic-Screening Program Referral Center
Winthrop Pediatric Associates, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology is a referral center for hormonal abnormalities found during the New York State Metabolic-Screening Program. Our Pediatric Endocrinologists specialize in treating Congenital Hypothyroidism and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. Our social worker is committed to assisting children, teens and young adults with obesity or weight problems. The social worker is also able to provide information regarding financial, community resources and insurance issues to those who might need assistance. The social worker has private appointments where psychosocial therapy, emotional support and healthy coping mechanisms can be provided for the child and or parent.

Down Syndrome Program
The Winthrop Down Syndrome Program (WDSP) provides compassionate, comprehensive and coordinated care for children with Down syndrome. The criterion for the program is for children ages 0-19 years.
Our multidisciplinary team consists of Dr. Moris Angulo, Director of Medical Genetics and Associate Director of Pediatric Endocrinology; Dr. Bill Bryson-Brockmann, Director of Behavioral Pediatrics; Colleen Farley-Cornell, Registered Dietician Nutritionist; and our Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Danielle Alessio. Dr. Asif Noor, Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease, serves as the medical coordinator for the program.

The STAR program aims to minimize the stress potential for patients/families on the autism spectrum or those who have Down Syndrome (birth through 18 years of age). The purpose is to streamline their care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. We aim to maximize our patient’s success rate while empowering the child and their family to advocate for their specific needs.
