Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder is not a single disorder, but many different disorders described by a broad behavioral phenotype that has a final common pathway of atypical development.

At Winthrop Child Neurology – our child neurologists evaluate these children to diagnose this condition, advise parents about appropriate work up and guide them regarding comprehensive management.

Attention Deficit Disorder

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common childhood disorders whose symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior and hyperactivity. (NIMH)

The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) 2011–2013 found that 9.5% of children ages 4–17 years were diagnosed with ADHD based on parent reported data.

“When seeking an evaluation or treatment for ADHD, it is important to see a qualified, licensed healthcare professional. In addition to ensuring that a particular professional has the required training, it is also important to work with a professional who has experience in dealing with this disorder.  In addition to those who may diagnose ADHD, there are numerous other professionals who may have a role in providing treatment and other services for individuals with ADHD and related disorders. These may include various types of therapists or specialists (such as occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, behavior therapists, educational specialists, etc).  While all of the above professionals can provide treatment for ADHD, only physicians can prescribe medication and perform thorough physical evaluations to rule out other possible causes of symptoms.” CHADD.
