We encourage you to contact your child’s insurance provider to obtain any referral paperwork or pre-authorizations needed. Referrals need to be in place at your child’s appointment or the visit may be delayed or rescheduled.

Please also call your child’s primary physician — and current rheumatologist if applicable — and ask them to mail all of your child’s medical records to our office or your home. Please bring these records with you such as any prior laboratory or blood test results, and the prior radiology (if available). This will help our rheumatologist diagnose and quickly treat our patients.

Please bring either a list of all the current and past medications, or bring all of the medications your child currently takes — including over-the-counter medications — in a bag.

For your child’s appointment, please dress your child in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. This will make it easier for the physician to examine your child’s joints and skin. Patients should remove nail polish before their appointment.

Also please bring the name and phone number of your pharmacy. Also, a parent or legal guardian must be present for all appointments. If you are a legal guardian, please bring proof of guardianship.

Two days before your child’s appointment, you will receive a reminder call.

For your child’s initial visit, he/she will have a complete physical examination including height, weight and blood pressure reading. On-site blood work may be requested by the physician, and our nurse will be able send it from our office.

Initial appointments usually last from 60 – 90 minutes. Child Life specialists are available as well to help the appointment run smoothly.

Parking is provided free of charge on the 3rd level of the parking garage directly behind the building. If you are unable to park in our garage due to an oversized vehicle, there is metered parking on the streets surrounding our building. Please ensure you have allotted enough time for your appointment.

The child’s diagnosis will determine the need for follow-up evaluations.

If you need to cancel your appointment, please give us 72 hours’ notice. Another family will be grateful for your time.

When you arrive for your child’s first visit, you will register your child with the front desk. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your child’s scheduled appointment so we can review all of your paperwork and ask any additional questions.

If you arrive late, you risk being seen later or having your appointment rescheduled.
